About the area

Spectacular views, warm-hearted people, and a quality of life that is undisputed; this is what you will find when you journey to the wild west. There are many things to keep you busy whether it's sightseeing, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, shopping or just relaxing. The East Gate of Yellowstone National Park is approximately 50 miles west of Cody, nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains. To the East are the Big Horn Mountains, which offer everything from gold prospecting to scenic afternoon drives. After your adventure through Yellowstone, you can travel 3 hours southwest to Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, WY.

Wyoming is the Equality state. Unlike most states, Wyoming does not levy an individual or corporate income tax. Additionally, Wyoming doesn't assess any tax on retirement income earned and received from another state. Sales tax is 4%, but individual counties have the option of collecting an additional 1% tax for general revenue and a 1% tax for specific purposes if voter approved.

As the 10th largest state in land mass, Wyoming has the smallest population. Even though there are plenty of wide open spaces, you can always count on the friendly folks around to make you feel welcome. Wyoming is sparsely populated, but Cody is a busy town in the summer. With the wild-west shootouts being reenacted, and the Cody Nite Rodeo every evening from June 1st to August 31st, you will never run out of things to do or people to meet.

Hunting and fishing are great and in abundance in the area. Hot spots are all around the Washakie Wilderness, including in the Beartooth Mountains and in the Sunlight Basin area. Near the southeastern portion of Yellowstone National Park you have the Bridger Teton National Forest, Wapiti Valley, and the South Fork of the Shoshone River area. You are not only going to enjoy great hunting and fishing, but you will be in the middle of the most scenic and beautiful country in the world.
