process development department

The Process Development Department is responsible for overseeing the processes required to produce a new product. The Process Development Chemist is assigned a new project by Project Management, and starts by researching the literature for potential synthetic pathways and for any patents that may be used or patents that need to be circumvented. The Process Development Chemist first develops the new process at bench scale, and writes a Process Development Report. The Process Development Chemist works with Project Management and Manufacturing to scale-up this new process to the kilo-lab scale (10 - 20 L equipment), in order to further refine the process in anticipation of full-scale manufacturing, and in order to make small quantities of samples for customers.
